Can You Install Windows 10 on an Hp Z820 for Davinci Resolve

  1. I was finally able to scrape together plenty to afford an older HP z820 with x2 Xeon 2690 2.9GHz 8-core CPUs, 16gigs ecc memory (8x2gb) and a quadro 5000 from ebay.
I use Avid and Resolve so I besides bought a Decklink SDI 4k to ship a signal out to my FSI cm171.

The problem is that I cant get Avid, Devinci, or BMDs desktop video app to recognize the card. I put it in slot half dozen like the Resolve guide suggests but nothing. Is my computer as well sometime?

I didn't know whatever better and then I ordered a Copy of Windows 10 even though originally it shipped with windows seven. Could this exist my problem? How could I fifty-fifty go a new copy of windows 7 pro now?

Any aid would exist appreciated. Im having a hard fourth dimension finding anyone ells with these types of issues.

    ~sam gove

    update 3/4/16
Windows 10 pro on the automobile. Decklink SDI 4k only works in slot #5. Slot #ane is already occupied by the internal SAS chip on the motherboard.
At present Im waiting on a 980ti (due later today) to test for broken PCIE slots and CPU issues.

  2. Have you installed the latest Desktop Video drivers from Blackmagic?
  3. Is that different then "desktop video 10.five.4"?

The offset affair I did when I got windows running was download the avid approved video driver for the Quadro 5000, and so went right to black magics website, and typed in "Decklink SDI 4K drivers" and thats all I could find, so I approximate I assumed it came packaged with drivers. Is there some other place to look?

  4. I put it into slot number 5, which is besides a pcie2 8x slot, and it seems to work great now. feel gratuitous to delete this post.
thanks for the quick response Tero.
  5. I just installed the Decklink SDI 4K Pro but needed to roll back to 10.5.two to get it to piece of work. (the new 12G lath requires full x8 slot for max speed but the standard 4K SDI only needs x4)
  6. Y'all might have a dead PCIe slot then...

  7. I tried the decklink in slots #i first, which is a pcie3 x8 (4) that runs off CPU0. nothing. the Quadro 5000 came in slot #2, and its double wide, so it blocks slot #3.
Next I tried slot #6, equally instructed by the resolve build guide, which did non work. Its a pcie3 x16 slot, then I figured information technology was because it was also using lanes from CPU0 (the same the quadro is using).
Next I tried Slot #four, because its a x16 slot, and since it uses lanes from CPU1(the 2nd cpu) I figured it should definitely work. Notwithstanding no dice.
This is when I stared thinking it was my fault for trying to load win 10 on a machine with a boot block engagement of 12/23/2011. Then I went down a 12 hr rabbit hole trying to reinstall windows 7 unsuccessfully (another tail for another time). Realizing that many of you on these forums are using win 10 with this hardware I decided what the hell, its not that hard to simply pop the carte into one concluding slot, slot #5, the lone pcie2 slot, and what do you know? Instantly recognized and installed... and so, do yous retrieve slots 1,iv and, half-dozen are all dead!?
  8. I had like issues with the fast x8 Decklink and my Asus z87 board. I found in my case some of the x16 slots actually had only half the pins inside. ie a x16 slot but only x8 pins so putting any x16 card into these slots would throttle to x8 so I had to await carefully at the motherboard specs sail to run across what slots shared what lanes, disable thunderbolt, etc. It concluded up being confusing because I finally found the right combination just as you lot did, by trail and error.

I take an O.C. GTX 970 G1 for GPU so I ran some operation benchmarks with it at full x16 (no other cards fitted) vs x8 (970 + Decklink) and discovered that there was maybe a ane% reduction in performance at x8 compared with x16. Surprising.

PS fifty-fifty a 2 year erstwhile z87 board is not 'certified' for win x but it works fine.

  9. Hello,
I have also trouble with Blackmagic card and Avid.
I take BMD Declink 4k farthermost, Evga sr2, 2x x5650 xeon, 8x4gb Ram, GTX 480 gui, GTX Titan Black SC, Windows vii pro.
Everything is ok when apply Desktop commuter 9.9.6. Resolve xi.3.1 and Gorging Symphony eight.5 work perfectly(very fast and stabile).

When i switch to Davinci resolve Studio 12.x I need to install Desktop driver 10.x because Resolve don't support older drivers.
At present I can not utilise Avid considering It hang everytime i switch on Declink out to my CM250.
I've tried ten.four.ane, x.four.iii. This motherboards has seven pciE 16x.
On my second rig: win7 pro, np z800, Declink extreme 3d+ with Diaplay driver ten.iv.1 or 10.four.iii DAvinci and Avid work good.

It is very wird because on older driver is stone solid system Up to Davinci 11 but automaticly i can non use Davinci Resolve Studio 12 :(.
Should i modify Extreme 4k to other card? Whitch 1? I demand sdi to feed my CM250 and hdmi to customer LCD.

    Thanks,
    Maciek

  10. I had good results with the cheaper 6G SDI 4K Decklink with Resolve 12. I converted the SDI to HDMI for out 4K client monitor, and so looped dorsum to the Hard disk Link for SDI to DP conversion. It worked well merely the new 12G SDI Pro has 2 SDI outputs and #2 automatically down scales any 4K to Hard disk so nosotros tin use our existing HD monitor for grading. All up a amend solution especially as the 12G Decklink can do 4K at 60P and 12bit 4:4:four.
  11. Can I simply move the quadro 5000 to the other slots to test them?

Also, should I starting time a new thread to inquire opinions on what graphics menu I should await for to replace the Quadro 5000? (Its probably single 980ti right?)

  12. The Quadro 5000 should be in a genuine x16 slot (often coloured differently) and information technology could be proficient match to Assimilate Scratch simply for Resolve today, a unmarried Maxwell Titan X probably offers the 'most for the to the lowest degree'. Bear in mind, (according to the man who is said to build the world's fastest PCs) Resolve tin only use a maximum of 16 GB of RAM and very fast i7 multi-core CPUs offer superior functioning to any Xeon equipped workstation.

    Beginning interview:

  13. Thank you Craig,

Probably i modify my card to SDI 4K or pro version. May be this help.

  14. I institute this potentially interesting for anyone ells out there with a second hand Z820

    http://h20331.www2.hp.com/Hpsub/downloads/PCI_Express_3.0_technology_optimizations.pdf

  15. The article makes a proficient point for whatsoever PC system and that is to disable any unused PCI slots in BIOS.
  16. Did this always get sorted out for you?
  17. Hi Sam,

Subsequently few test and card switching I have Davinci 12 and gorging working only...

First of all, my local Blackmagic reseller give me Declink studio 4k for testing.
The same results as my Declink 4k - working on older driver, don' working on newer.
In next step i test my Declink 4k in hp z800 - and i was very suprised considering on newer driver my card work with avid and resolve 12 (ten.4.1) so i put Declink HD extreme 3d+ to my master comp, install 10.4.ane and Everything work very stabile. Probably my mainboard is a trouble:(.

    In hp z800 i put declink 4k to starting time(8x - slot).

  18. It shouldn't matter if y'all are using Windows 7, 8, or x. Your Decklink should be recognized in all of them. Also, if you need to run across if your card is being detected at a hardware level, become to Device Managing director for your version (In Win 7 it's click Offset Bill of fare > Right-Click Computer > then click Manage > Device Manager.) Nether Audio Video and Game Controllers y'all should run into an entry for your Decklink. If you run into ??? under that branch for an unknown device, and then you're missing your Desktop Video drivers. One time they're installed, the bill of fare should correctly identify in Device Manager. Then you can requite it a try in Resolve.

The fact that several of your slots aren't working would often signal to a bad CPU, but since slots for both CPUs seem to be down, you might have a motherboard issue. However, if that many slots have actually failed, I would look the motherboard to simply not office at all.

Let'due south non confuse wishful thinking with facts. If your superiority argument above were really true, you'd encounter i7s being used in all sorts of applications you rarely ever find them, like high functioning calculating, big scale databases, loftier-end fileservers, etc, just they're non. i7s are squeamish for home and business organization desktops, laptops, sure pro applications, and even a commodity render farm or two, but the concept of overclocking one to the hilt, and so calling information technology superior is like claiming a twin-turbo iv-cylinder would make a better bulldozer engine.

Also, I attempt to give Red Shark the benefit of the doubt, merely this gentleman's claims of "fastest in the earth" are virtually as unfounded as his argument that they run their CPUs "at a loftier gigahertz" (2:15) which no 1 with any kind of computer engineering science groundwork would ever say. If you lot're actually interested in agreement more near loftier-finish computing, I would start by getting your data from a site with a fleck more than technical depth instead.

  19. Im worried about having expressionless slots. Should I try moving the quadro 5000 menu effectually besides? Is there any mode I tin test my CPU health? Im running out of time to return this thing if i even can.

I concord about the ruby-red shark thing. I don't think that guy really knows what actually working on a long format movement picture project is like.

  20. I would go out the K5000 where it is. Plug your Decklink into i of your questionable slots and see if appears in device manager. If it doesn't, remove the Decklink and try another "known skillful" PCI-E bill of fare that has worked reliably for yous before. Unless something actually catastrophic has happened, the idea that iii of your PCI-East slots are expressionless seems highly unlikely to me unless you take a failed CPU, which would could cause a lot of slots to go down like that.
